AMBR is a project steeped in the concern of the user, born from the angst of being a foreigner. The design process sought to place agency firmly in the community it was designed to serve; being both the children involved in the charity Big Noise and the residents of Balloch. The concerns of paying homage to the existing, whilst also providing a building fit for purpose that held landmark qualities were resolved through a visual dialogue with residents in Balloch and discussions with children. The final design represents a series of abstractions, manipulations and at times blatant replications of the existing surrounds, that exudes a playful compilation that is fitting of both the children who will inhabit the site and the town of Balloch itself.
