Object Empathy is a series of sculptural forms that seek to interrogate the relationship we have with the space we inhabit. Antithetical to the harsh edges and unforgiving surfaces of modernity, the objects are formed through a series of body impressions that formulate a material relationship between object and body. Through this formal arrangement, we see the built beginning to create a resemblance to the users with whom it interacts, empathising with their conditions.
The current work is an experiment in Hempcrete (hemp, lime and water), a carbon-negative material per cubic metre over a 28 day period sequesters 307kg of carbon from the atmosphere. Radically shifting the construction of objects from producer of emissions to consumer.
